subsnds_353x250

This is Substantial Sounds for Fall 2014. This is where we talk about singles and albums that we think stood out. We are fortunate to receive an intense amount of incredible music from some of the best labels in Electronic Music. Subdivisions Global Radio is a dance music formatted show that receives a wide variety of music for consideration to be played each week. At Subdivisions Global Radio we have an array of taste and try to showcase that on a weekly basis. A lot of music was not getting exposed such as, full albums, compilations, down tempo, chill vibe, well thought out EP’s and a ton of dance singles. We know we can’t play or share everything but we now have a great opportunity to share a great variety of music that we think is solid and that people might not otherwise hear. We are excited to use this section to introduce you, our listeners, to some of these incredible sounds!

Exploit – Event Horizon EP – Mutex Recordings

Ukrain techno producer, Alexey Gordiyenko aka Exploit, has crafted an absolute, incredible album of cross-genre bliss with his “Event Horizon” EP on the Mutex Recording label. It’s rare I find an electronic album that I feel is truly diverse in tone, vibe, and texture. “Event Horizon” starts off with ethereal and lush, “Forever” which is a feel good, beatless gem. Next up are the straight up techno sounds of “Utopia”, a nice semi-dark, builder which rolls you right into the grooving techno sounds of “Departure”. I love the old school, breaky, electro vibe of the track “Plectron 2″ which leads you right into the chilled out vibe of “Zero Gravity” which is a groover that reminds me of the vibe of old Underworld tracks like “Dark and Long”. “Time Slowdown” is a great, ambient vibe track that sets you up for the techno builder “UFO” which bangs along before exposing a beautiful, textured, breakdown which is a perfect way to get you half-way through the album. This album is super solid and worth a listen for sure!

Ece Boas – Thkcradio – Boroque

German label, Broque, drops the incredible 5 track, “Ece Boas – Thkcradio” EP. This low slung collection of tracks is full of texture and emotion. “Ece Boas” starts us off with “Aspirant” a lower, tempo beauty with just enough piano and percussion to set you on the way. Next up is ‘Future Is For Us”, with its less beats, swirling vibe and male, vocal sample that set you up for what’s next. “I Feel Better Now” is a restrained break-beat vibe track with nice, affected vocal. The “I Love All People” track has dark, under chorde’s which build you up with some darker but beautiful emotion. This is a great EP for sure and one I hae listened to many, many times. Click the link below to be taken Broque’s website and grab the free download of this.  Make sure you swing by and grab it while it’s still up – Amazing!

Cosmic Cowboys – Zero Gravity Love LP- Musik Gewinnt Freunde

Cosmic Cowboys are the Venetian duo of Nicolas Sansoni aka “Radomatique” and Kalad Jabri aka “Kaledj”. Randomatique and Kaledj knock it out of the ball park with their “Zero Gravity Love” remixes on Muisik Gewinnt Freunde. This album is a definite treat that we found here Subdivisions Global Radio. I enjoy this album as a music producer, DJ, and most importantly as a lover of electronic and house music for the last 28 years.  This moody, ambient, super soulful collection of tracks is top notch from the first listen to the 12th listen and all the listens in-between. It’s hard to believe it’s one group of artists and not a various artist release. I love the soulful world music vibe at times that is mixed with soulful house on an adult tip. This one is beyond super solid for the educated listener and someone who is looking for something different for the drive home after the club.  This is a perfect album for chilled out Sundays lounging around at home.

Medo – Avalon LP – Clarisee Records

8378566David Medo brings it big time on the “Avalon” LP on Clarisse Records. This 14 track collection of flamenco tinged beats is just what the doctored ordered. Not many full length dancecentric type albums hold my attention. Mendo absolutely kills it with this super solid collection of groovs. Stand-outs for me are “Abstract feat. Carla Krevey” that has restrained flamenco and a great female vocal.  My faves are, “La Krika” with the Spanish spoken word and “Clavito” with its deep, grooving, less is more attitude. “Fever” is a great filler track thats killer. The more ambient “Mintro” and “Interlude” round things out nicely. This one is definitely worth a listen!

Damiano von Erckert – Loved Based Music- AVA

212x212coverLP002

This House, Hip Hop, Soul, Disco and Poetry vibe sounds on Damiano von Erckert’s, “Loved Based Music” EP on AVA music is beyond phenomenal collection of work. Damiano had me at “All Good”, a low slung soulful track with a ton of emotion and then he moves right into a short but sweet deep grooving, house track called “No Good Times”. Next up is the ambient vibe and scattered beats of “French Porsche” that has drums programming from Funkycan. The deep disco vibe on  “Hollywood feat. Georgia Anne Muldrow” is sweet. The other stand out for me is “Sweet and Kind” a low slung, deep vibe track with just enough female vocal cut up and filtered sound. This was a great change of pace!

Luca Lozano – Life in Black and White – Klasse Recordings

8214885All I can say is all 13 tracks are straight goodness on this Luca Lozano “Life in Black And White” on Klasse Recordings. I love it when you get a straight up, creative and artistic gift in your inbox. This was filled with absolute incredible tracks like “Learning to Walk” and the soulful, beaty “Chaki Zulu”. Make sure to get the LP right away. Luca does a phenomenal job with the variety and texture of the tracks. You have straight up, deeper house cuts, a few hip hop tracks, down tempo and trip hop vibe tracks along with ambient and lower slung vibe tracks. We absolutely love the track called “Outro Sleep” which is a definite treat for this old school head with high expectations.

Unclepasha – Samples of Kino – Nostrax

8387759

Samples of Kino”, the release by Russian producer, Unclepasha on Nostrax, is probably one of my favorite album releases of 2013. The absolute lush sounds, and low slung vibe of “Silent Night” got me right away. “Evening Rain” is a perfect follow-up to keep the Balearic Cafe Del Mar vibe going just a bit longer. Next up is the perfect just enough restrained acid line sounds of “Good Ghost” which leads you right into the funky wah-wah vibe of “I See Summers Tail” which is deep goodness. “Stare” is a low slung chilled out track that is super-spacey with great texture. The last track “Untitled Music” reminds me of the Cut Copy, “In Colours” album from back in 2008 which is a perfect way to end the 7 track soulful journey. I hope some of you enjoy it as much as I did!

Daniel Bortz – Patchwork Memories  – Suol

212x212suol_daniel_bortz_patchwork_memories_600

The “Patchwork Memories” LP on Suol is the perfect way to introduce people to Daniel Bortz. Daniel does not really need an introduction to most house or techno producers. However, if you’re just discovering Daniel, look no further then this high quality LP with great diversity and range. “Monkey Biznezz” is a soulful uplifting house track with a haunting vocal sample that has a deep grooving bass line. I really like the lower slung tracks like “Bright”, “Satisfaction” and “In the Yard”. This release is top notch but I would expect nothing less from a veteran like Daniel Bortz. This album should be consumed together for you to get the big picture. Be sure to look up Daniels back catalog of music, you won’t be disappointed!

Various Artist  – Discordian Dreaming – Harmonious Discord

212x212 HD-DD7-Layout_01

This various artist compilation of forthcoming tracks by Harmonious Discord is pretty fantastic. I love the way they start the compilation with the WonderNexus – “Peregrine” that has a mysterious swirling vibe and spacey in and out beats. Next up, is Onium’s deeper vibe, techno track “Comastate” with its ethereal, floaty vibe and restrained high hats. My favorite track on this compilation is the Adam Pickrell, “Reach Suite”. I love the deep vibe and male vocal with subtle percussion which has just enough restrained piano to make it sexy without overkill. My other top pick would be the Olvan Dbri – “Diving Into You” with it’s deep technohouse vibe and grooving percussion movement. That is the right kind of track made for the mixing. This is a top notch look at what’s in store for Harmonious Discord in 2014!

Hector Merida – Pictures LP – Baroque Records UK

8124632It’s rare that an album comes along that is completely diverse in it’s full offerings. Hector Merida’s – “Pictures” LP on Baroque Records, UK, does the job! It’s refreshing to see a producer being creative, generous with their art and taking a chance. It’s not always about the the most obscure sound as it is about the variety and offerings of styles. The “Pictures” LP starts off with “Forgetting You”, a dark trip-hop on a DnB track which leads you right into the low-slung “Reminisce” that has a subtle piano vibe and haunting strings. Next up is another lower slung house gem, “Persephonk”, with the nice male rap vocal for flavor. This leads right into “Moonlit Jazz”, a deep grooving house number with subtle sax and swinging percussion which is perfectly placed to pick up the pace. Hector follows up with some Jungle and DnB vibe tracks like “Don’t Stop” and “Sanctuary”. My favorite track is “Serenity” feat. Martin Orchard. This track is next level and the last thing you would expect to hear on an album classified as dance music. The album ends on a solid 1, 2, 3 punch of “Lost in Chicago” a solid-ass house track we played on Subdivisions 097 back in October. “Embrasser Le Soleil” is a jungle vibe beauty. Finally, leaving on a sweet note with “One”, it has a piano and low slung trip-hop type beat that builds emotion. This release should definitely be listened to complete as an album to get the full experience – Super Solid!
