SGR #153 – Hernene & Myxzlplix

We’ve got another solid episode of “underground” tech-house, & deep house with Subdivisions’ host Myxzlplix handling mixing duties for hour one features music from Brame, Central Rodeo, Junior Gee, Stefano Noferini, Marc Molina, Nicky Shah, Wally Stryk and many more! Then in in hour two, we welcome Los Angeles Producer/Remixer/Deejay Hernene.

About Hernene: Hernene’s refined, sophisticated approach to deep house has immediately grabbed the ears of tastemaker DJs and music fans alike. Having come seemingly out of nowhere in 2014, his debut ‘In My Room’ EP and his remix of Eric Sharp’s ‘We Own The Nite’ – both out now on LA’s RIS Labs – are actually the culmination of many years on dance floors, behind the decks in DJ booths, and twisting knobs in the studio. Tight drum programming, proper chord progressions, deft sample work and an undeniable groove set his productions apart from the pack and have earned him heaps of praise.

Hernene has been a part of the Los Angeles dance music scene since the late nineties, when the parties and L.A. nightlife led him to experience an awe-inspiring performance by the legendary Doc Martin. This was an epiphany and a watershed moment that would change the course of his life. He soon met the legendary local collective known as Bossa:nova with Resident DJs Jason Bentley (KCRW/Quango), Bruno Guez (KCRW/Quango), and Jun (Umoja hi-fi/Science). Hernene’s talents and taste became apparent to the crew and he was invited to become one of the resident DJs, remaining in the creative rotation until the very end of their 12-year reign. While performing with the Bossa:nova crew Hernene opened for an array of leading lights in the dance/underground world, including Jazzanova, Charles Webster, Ben Watt/Lazy Dog, Miguel Migs, Marques Wyatt, Ian Pooley, Pepe Braddock, King Britt, and too many others to count.

Starting from the ground up with music production, Hernene segued naturally to creating remixes for such independent and major labels as Salted Music, Chez Music, Giant Step, Ultra, Warner Bros, and Capitol Records. His remixes include Lisa Shaw (Salted), D’stephanie (Chez), Waxpoetics feat. Norah Jones (Ultra), Leela James (WB), and Faith Evans (Capitol). But perhaps the true significance of his talents lay in his sublime approach to original music and his ability to craft harmonious entities. His work integrity has achieved a monk-like balance, seamlessly transposing a deep-rooted analog vibe into the platform of the modern digital arena, creating a cerebral acrobatic transcendence of sound unique to him. Watch for  Hernene’s worldwide audience to grow in the coming months. In the meantime close your eyes, turn up your speakers, and catch his groove.
